A Note from the Executive Director
Welcome to our new and improved website!
As the new Executive Director of the Very Asian Foundation, I’m excited and honored to help lead the organization in its mission to highlight, amplify and celebrate Asian stories and experiences.
When I heard about the voicemail that Michelle received after her New Year’s Day broadcast, followed by her impressive public stand and gracious response, I experienced an array of emotions. Like many others, I was amazed and truly inspired by the outpouring of support and affirmation by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. We felt seen. Clearly the #VeryAsian message resonated with and touched individuals everywhere. I loved the personal stories that emerged from this moment, and the chance to help utilize these expressions to inspire a movement is what stirred me to join the VAF team.
Everything that has transpired since January 1 highlights the importance of sharing all our stories. In fact, the national Asian American book project we are getting ready to launch was inspired by a story shared by St. Louis high school students. (Look out for the launch in May — it will be awesome!)
In the past four months, the Very Asian Foundation has been busy partnering with companies to raise funds for organizations like Stop Asian Hate, building relationships with creative partners, and pursuing our mission to “shine a light on Asian experiences through advocacy and celebration.” Most importantly, we are committed to engaging with the AANHPI communities and allies in having our voices heard and promoting meaningful change.
The late John Lewis said, “Never ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”
Let’s make some noise and get into good trouble together.
Cheers!
